A Message From Melody Curtiss Cathey
I want to share the dream of the Bridge for children in Freetown, Sierra Leone, West Africa. I have been in Freetown and seen the school age children in the middle of the day picking up cans on the side of the road, walking into traffic to beg from the passing cars or peddle for money-changers, market vendors and others. I have seen them diving into the river to reach the sandbeds in Bo, and carrying a load of heavy, wet sand up the steep slope, or crushing rocks with rocks to sell to builders.
I know they are there instead of a classroom, doing whatever they can to make money to feed themselves for one day, perhaps scrape together enough for shelter for one night, not because they are playing hookie, but because they believe their survival is at stake, that this is their only possibility. It is their reality.
With our help, it doesn't have to be their reality any longer. Help us help CFPS build a bridge to another possibility, another reality.
My goal of $500 isn't much, but it is 10% of what is needed to begin building this bridge. Help me help CFPS begin building a bridge.
