For many families in Sierra Leone, Christmas is not a season of abundance; It is a season of difficult choices.
As food prices continue to rise and economic hardship affects communities across the country, many vulnerable parents struggle to provide enough food for their children. During the holiday season, these challenges become even more difficult. For some families, the question is not what gifts they can give their children—it is whether there will be enough food on the table.
That is why the Child Reintegration Centre (CRC) begins preparing months in advance for one of the most meaningful events of the year: the CRC Family Empowerment Christmas Celebration.
This December, nearly 2,000 children and members of 430 vulnerable families will travel from communities across Sierra Leone to gather for a day of joy, fellowship, faith, and hope.
For families who face daily challenges, this celebration is a powerful reminder that they are seen, valued, and loved.

But the celebration does not end there. Before returning home, every family receives a bag of rice and essential cooking ingredients to help sustain them through the holiday season.
For many families, this food support is one of the most important gifts they will receive all year. It helps reduce food insecurity, eases the burden on struggling caregivers, and helps keep children safely at home with their families during a season when many are vulnerable.
