This fund supports capacity building educational scholarship for indigenous people serving in and employed by nonprofit programs supported by Helping Children Worldwide in the global south. These individuals work to improve conditions for people living in the most impoverished circumstances in the most impoverished regions on Earth.
Awardees have shown a commitment to service, excellent work history, an inability to pay for the educational program on their own, willingness to continue their service, and a direct link between the educational program and its value to the people they are serving in their employment. Each award is made following application and a vigorous application process prior to award, requires a bond for repayment, and a locally enforceable agreement that the applicant will repay the loan through continued service upon completion of the course of study. In return for service, 25% of the loan will be forgiven each year. Upon termination of service, any non-forgiven portion of the loan will be repaid in full into a fund that provides future scholarship study service grant/loans to other eligible applicants. No service grant/loan is intended to cover 100% of the costs, and as a part of the agreement, awardees must demonstrate that they will be contributing to the cost of their educational program or raising funds through other sources to cover the costs.
An updated list of potential awards and applicants is available if you choose to donate. Donors may specify a preference for a specific award to support, or donate to the pool of available funds.People who feel deeply called to contribute and have the desire to do even more can choose to create a personal fundraising campaign to support the scholarship pool.
