  • Did you know that 1 in 20 mothers die due to pregnancy or childbirth in Sierra Leone? One of the leading factors responsible for this alarming maternal and infant mortality rate is the lack of trained midwives, especially in remote areas with limited access to healthcare.

    In our ongoing efforts to improve maternal and infant health, HCW and its Together for Global Health partners successfully trained 100 midwives earlier this year.

    On this year's Mother's Day, we are reaching out to you with a special invitation. We are seeking your support to bring life-saving midwifery training to 50 more midwives. Just imagine the ripple effect as these trained professionals return to their respective communities across the country, saving the lives of mothers, babies, and newborns.

    Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a significant impact. Here are some examples of how your gift can help:


    • $35 can cover the cost of supplies for 1 midwife to undergo 5 days of training in helping babies breathe and helping mothers survive bleeding after birth.
    • $60 can cover the cost of housing, transportation, and food for 1 midwife from a rural community to attend the training event.
    • $125 can provide a scholarship to one midwife from a remote village to attend a 5-day life-saving midwifery program.
    • $250 can equip two midwives with advanced delivery skills that will save the lives of mothers and babies.
